It is the American dream, to own our own business, be our own boss, answer to no one but ourselves. But starting your own business can be very costly. Here are five business opportunities with low start up costs that almost anyone can start. Online Auctions- Auction sites can be used to sell arts and crafts, clothing and/or unwanted household items, or brand new items. It is easy to set up an auction on these sites and the seller does not have to have a lot of experience to get started. If you are interested in selling new items, you can either find a supplier and keep stock of the items that you are selling, or you can find a legitimate drop shipper who will ship the products directly to customers. Many people make a living by browsing thrift stores and yard sales for the latest in brand name clothing and accessories and reselling them on auction sites for a hefty profit. Errand Running Business- If you have time and a vehicle, you can start a business by offering to run errands for others who are not able to do so themselves. Put an ad in the local newspaper and/or radio station and put up fliers at doctor’s offices, businesses, grocery stores, etc. The elderly and working professionals often do not have a way to run their errands or time to do so and would gladly pay you pick up dinner, dry cleaning, walk the dog, etc. Organization Professional- Are you a neat freak? Does everything in your house have to be in its designated place? Then why not use your obsession to help others find a place for their possessions? Have professional business cards printed, put an ad in the paper and on your local radio station, and offer to do a few home organizations for free to friends and neighbors in exchange for a good reference. Once word spreads that you are offering to help others get organized, the phone calls may start rolling in.
